Joe N. Oswald

PERSONAL

Joe grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, and has lived all over the Midwest and the German-speaking world since leaving home. Prior to law school, Joe spent six years as an educator, including three years teaching English in southern Austria and three years working with long term English learners in Minneapolis.

While in law school, Joe made it his goal to gain as much practical experience as possible and participated in clinics and externships every semester he was eligible.  This included Washington University’s Interdisciplinary Environmental Clinic, Civil Rights and Mediation Clinic, and Immigration Law Clinic.  He is particularly proud of his work as a community mediator for the St. Louis Mediation Project his third year of law school where he mediated landlord-tenant disputes and helped avoid numerous evictions.  Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Leonard T. Strand for the Northern District of Iowa.

In his free time, Joe cycles through various outdoor hobbies (currently exploring Des Moines’s incredible bike trails), loves traveling with his wife, watches nearly every Milwaukee Bucks game, and is endlessly entertained by his two cats.
