Laura C. Wasson

Laura represents businesses and financial institutions in corporate and regulatory matters.

Before joining Belin McCormick, Laura practiced at two prominent law firms where she developed a broad and sophisticated practice advising clients on business transactions and compliance matters. Additionally, Laura spent nearly four years as lead internal counsel to the Honorable Stephen H. Locher for the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Iowa. Her time with the District Court informs her transactional practice and rounds out her ability to advise clients on transactional matters with litigation risk.

Laura’s work spans the full lifecycle of business operations—from entity formation and structuring to corporate governance, contract negotiation, and strategic growth through mergers and acquisitions. She also brings deep experience in the financial services sector, having represented banks and other financial institutions in regulatory applications, through mergers and acquisitions, and each day in between as they face the complex world of federal and state regulatory compliance.

Known for her practical approach and attention to detail, Laura is a trusted advisor to both emerging companies and established institutions.

Personal

Laura grew up in Garner, Iowa, and moved to Des Moines to attend Drake University. After graduating with a business degree, summa cum laude, she continued her education at Drake University Law School, where she graduated with highest honors. She met her husband, Conner, at Drake, and they settled in Des Moines with their two boys, Henry and Jack.

When she’s not working, Laura enjoys running and yoga. After that, you can find her sampling all of the area’s good restaurants and establishments. Occasionally, she reads for fun. More likely, she’s re-watching 90’s sitcoms.
