Alexandra M. Cutler

Alex believes in going the extra mile for her community and in the representation of her clients.

Alex joined the litigation group at Belin McCormick after clerking for the Honorable Justice Thomas Waterman on the Iowa Supreme Court. She graduated from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. While in law school, Alex prioritized exposure to as many unique legal settings as possible. She was fortunate to serve as an intern with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, as a judicial intern with the Honorable Judge McMurdie on the Arizona Court of Appeals, and a student attorney with her school’s Civil Litigation Clinic. In these roles, Alex provided crucial legal research and drafted legal memorandums and filings. Alex graduated in three and half years from Drake University’s College of Arts and Science and College of Business & Public Administration with summa cum laude honors. While at Drake, Alex kept busy working at an Iowa criminal defense firm and Missouri civil ligation firm. These experiences confirmed Alex’s desire to be a civil litigator and immigration attorney dedicated to solving problems for her clients.

Alex is committed to community involvement at every stage in her career. In undergrad, Alex served as her sorority’s service director where she planned and organized community service projects, mentor for younger students through a variety of campus organizations, and volunteer advocate in Polk County for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Iowa. In law school, Alex graduated with the Highest Pro Bono Distinction, served as a mentor for first-year law students through the Women Law Students Association and her role as a teaching assistant, and volunteered in Phoenix with Arizona Legal Center and Arizonans for Children. Since returning to Iowa, Alex continues to serve as a volunteer advocate for CASA.

Personal

Alex was born and raised outside of Kansas City, Missouri. She and her husband met during their first weekend at Drake University and are very proud to call Des Moines home. Des Moines is not too big for him and not too small for her. Plus, it has an impressive food scene. And Des Moines is perfectly located close—but not too close—to both of their families. In her free time, Alex is cheering for Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, having game nights with friends, and spoiling her seventy-two-pound labradoodle.
