Summer Program: End of Summer Reflections From Our 2025 Summer Associates

August 18, 2025 | Press Release

With summer nearly over, our summer associates have concluded their time at Belin to prepare for the upcoming school year. Before they left, our 1L summer associates reflected on their summer at Belin McCormick, P.C.:

Madison Diaz (L1) | Drake University Law School
J.D. Candidate, May 2027

Q: What is the most important thing you have learned during your summer at Belin?

A: The most important thing I learned this summer is that a summer associate position is, above all, a significant learning experience. It taught me the importance of patience and growth. You can't expect to get everything right immediately. Instead, it's an invaluable opportunity to receive constructive feedback, continually improve, and prepare yourself for the transition from law student to practicing attorney.

Q: What has surprised you the most during your summer at Belin?

A: I was surprised by how generous attorneys were with their time throughout the summer. Whether it was providing detailed feedback on assignments, delivering informative lunch presentations, or attending social events, their willingness to engage with summer associates exceeded my expectations and made the experience especially valuable.

Q: What is one thing about Belin McCormick, P.C. that everyone should know?

A: Everyone should know that the attorneys at Belin McCormick are exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled in their respective areas of law. They demonstrate a genuine commitment to providing high-level, sophisticated legal services for their clients, consistently prioritizing excellence and precision in their work.

Alyssa Medin (L1) | University of Michigan Law School
J.D. Candidate, May 2027

Q: What is the most important thing you have learned during your summer at Belin?

A:  The most important thing I learned was the value of a law firm that gives young lawyers more than an opportunity to do interesting work—but a voice to contribute in a case or transaction. The close-knit firm culture at Belin has been nurtured through decades of treating new associates as equal contributors to the Belin model of excellence and success.

Q: What has surprised you the most during your summer at Belin?

A: The thing that surprised me the most is how important your ideal “work flow” is for determining your practice area(s) of interest. I started my summer interested in litigation but became quickly drawn to transactional (specifically real estate) work because I love the fast-paced flow of a deal cycle.

Q: What is one thing about Belin McCormick, P.C. that everyone should know?

A: Law students should know that Belin McCormick, as a small but powerful law firm, provides the opportunity to learn through engaging and cutting-edge/sophisticated work, starting on day one. Belin handles some of the most interesting cases and transactions with a lean staff, so associates are able to get into court much earlier than their peers and are overall given more responsibility and authority over their work.

Keaton Wenz (L1) | University of Minnesota Law School
J.D. Candidate, May 2027

Q: What is the most important thing you have learned during your summer at Belin?

A: The most important thing that I learned during my summer at Belin is how to balance some of the practical challenges of being an attorney in private practice. The summer program provides opportunities such as learning how to balance projects on varying timelines ranging from long-term to within-an-hour issues, learning to develop healthy billing habits, learning to build professional relationships and connections, and more. These are the important lessons that aren’t taught in classrooms, and I have thankful to have had the opportunity at Belin.

Q: What has surprised you the most during your summer at Belin?

A: My biggest surprise this summer was the level of responsibility given to summer associates at an early stage. I was given the opportunity to produce first drafts of documents that were ultimately submitted to courts, sent to opposing parties, or handed to clients. I felt that I was able to do real, important work at Belin, rather than stick-it-to-the-fridge projects.

Q: What is one thing about Belin McCormick, P.C. that everyone should know?

A: Everyone at Belin really cares about what they do, and they care about who they do it with. It is evident in every interaction. The entire firm is structured to ensure that clients receive the best possible representation in every matter.
